Christmas is celebrated by a significant portion of Egypt's population, primarily by the Christian community, which is mainly composed of Coptic Orthodox Christians.

Coptic Christians in Egypt celebrate Christmas on January 7th. This date follows the Julian calendar, which is observed by the Coptic Orthodox Church.

Christmas Eve is an important time for Coptic Christians in Egypt. Many attend the "Midnight Mass" service, known as the "Nativity Mass" or "Coptic Mass." The service typically includes hymns, prayers, scriptural readings, and the symbolic reenactment of the birth of Jesus.

Prior to Christmas, Coptic Christians observe a 40-day period of fasting called the "Advent Fast" or "Nativity Fast." During this time, they abstain from consuming meat, dairy, and other animal products as a form of spiritual preparation for the birth of Jesus.

Homes and churches in Egypt are often adorned with festive decorations during the Christmas season. Many families set up nativity scenes, depicting the birth of Jesus, and decorate Christmas trees with lights, ornaments, and tinsel.

On Christmas Eve, Coptic Christians traditionally break their fast with a special meal called "Fata." Fata is a dish made of bread, rice, and meat, typically lamb or beef, cooked in a flavorful broth. Other traditional festive foods may include stuffed grape leaves, roasted meats, and various desserts.

Similar to other parts of the world, exchanging gifts is a common practice among Egyptian Christians during Christmas. Families and friends exchange presents, and children often receive gifts from Santa Claus or Baba Noel, as he is known in Egypt. Festive gatherings, parties, and community events are also held to celebrate the holiday.

In recent years, Egypt has seen the emergence of light festivals and displays during the Christmas season. Streets, buildings, and public spaces are adorned with colorful lights, creating a festive atmosphere.

It's important to note that while Christmas is primarily celebrated by the Christian community in Egypt, it is also respected and recognized as a national holiday. The holiday season in Egypt fosters a sense of joy, unity, and celebration among different communities.
